The devotion to Our Lady of the Olives began in 1493 when a church in a French village was struck by lightning and burned down. A statue of the Virgin Mary survived, evidently made of olive wood. The people took up a devotion to Mary under that name, and the devotion spread. Lighting has not struck the village since. The Feast Day was originally June 18, but over time has become is February 10. (source: www.udayton.edu)

On the back, we have the traditional prayer to her. The beautiful picture of her on the front is by Nicolò Barabino. It was one of the most famous Catholic paintings of the 19th Century, widely considered to be a masterpiece.
