When Bernadette asked the lady who she was, she told the peasant girl, "I am the Immaculate Conception." Bernadette reported that to her parish priest, but she did not know what it meant. He did. Bernadette also reported that the lady had a blue sash and yellow roses on her feet, as shown in this endearing depiction from the turn of the last century.
